Job Description

About the role:

You will manage the automation strategy, implementation plan and system integrations. Lead scope definition, conceptual design, specifications, budgeting, scheduling, commissioning, and production support.

Manage a department vision that aligns with our strategy. Based on technical expertise, reviews and approves complex design concepts and provides general direction to technical staff. Exhibits creativity and new ideas in completing divisional and cross functional responsibilities. You will report to the Associate Engineering Director

How you will contribute:

  • Apply state-of-the-art techniques in the area of expertise to develop new or improved products and processes.

  • Lead large-scale programs and multiple small projects with complex features.

  • Lead the team in daily troubleshooting of control systems, network infrastructure and instrumentation, recommends improvements.

  • Maintain automation systems and network infrastructure. Participate in IT and Mfg. N/W enhancements projects

  • Help execute Project Record (PR) ownership, DeltaV/EBM/PLC/BAS configuration changes, functional tests, Commissioning Plans, and Qualification Protocols.

  • Oversee and close corrective actions related to the automation system; including Corrective Action & Preventative Action (CAPA) that are generated due to user interventions and non-conformances/events.

  • Lead and schedules activities for Critical Systems PLC and BAS projects to ensure that all automation engineering actions are completed by assigned due dates.

  • Perform financial planning and support the analysis to justify project approval.

  • Independently plans, schedules and leads team in detailed phases of the engineering work.

  • Develop and implement new product/process requiring development of technologies

  • Update Standard Operation and Preventive Maintenance Procedures for the existing equipment and control systems.

  • Revises and executes SOP for the control systems software configuration and application installation, back up and restoration.

  • Provide guidance and assist risk assessment and validation. Complete projects following the LA Plant Project Management Methodology guidelines and practices.

  • Communicate with other groups to ensure successful implementation of design

  • Experience managing automation systems in an FDA regulated manufacturing settings.

  • Knowledge of GMPs, FDA guidelines and validation.

  • Maintain industry contracts and be involved in industry interest groups.

  • Preferred knowledge of pharmaceutical or food industry, Allen Bradley line of product (PLC, VFD, Panel View), Flex I/O, Compact Logix, Factory Talk SE, Panel Views, Wonderware In Touch. Familiar with automation associated with critical systems like RO, WFI Stills, Alcohol still and associated distribution systems, boilers, compressors, multimedia filters, chillers, etc.

  • knowledge of Building automation systems (Siemens Insight or Desigo) preferred

  • IT and Mfg. network infrastructure experience is required

What you bring to Takeda:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline required. Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering Degree Preferred. 3+ years of related experience. Some leadership experience preferred for supervisory roles.

  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry up to 25 lbs.

  • In general, your work will be a combination of sedentary work and walking around observing conditions in the facility.

  • Can work in controlled environments requiring special gowning. Will follow gowning requirements and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body

  • No make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish or artificial fingernails may be worn in the manufacturing environment.

  • Will work in a cold and wet environment.

  • Must be able to work multiple shifts, including weekends.

  • May work in a confined area.

  • Some Clean Room and cool/hot storage conditions
